Straight from the Heart is a blast from the past – unfortunately youtube have disabled the embedding of the original mix which I recognized so readily, but here’s an extremely funky remix with an even better bassline – perfect boyracer material if you ask me. 1xtra played it this afternoon and it reminded me of summer, going clubbing and the advent of UK garage. 1997 was the year that Tony Blair came to power and garage really made an impact (not that the two are related – I’m not sure of the ex-PM’s views on garage music). Garage is the best thing that ever happened to Britain.
Shanks and Bigfoot also brought out “Sweet Like Chocolate” which disturbed everyone with its chocolate cartoon characters and mind-numbing tune. However, it stuck in your head and mine, resulting with a hit in the top 40 and garage music joining the mainstream.
