The Toxic Crusaders was a short cartoon that I remember airing on UK TV during my childhood – I can just remember thinking “oh great, another cartoon” while the show started, then the theme tune featured the line “we’re hideously deformed” (or similar) and I was hooked. The toxic crusaders tried to ride the tidal [...]
I remember the cartoon M.A.S.K as one of my childhood favourites – I used to love everything about this cartoon, particularly the fact that they fought crime, all the time. I even got a M.A.S.K paper plate and cup set for my fifth birthday party (postponed because I had chicken pox I believe) so I [...]
I remember Albert fondly as one of those cartoons in the mid 1990s that were Okay to watch even though I was probably a little bit too old to still be watching cartoons: it had the occassional big word and grown-up reference in it! Albert was a small man, but was crucial to the Napoleonic [...]
Henry’s Cat was frankly one of my favourite cartoons growing up because the story was just like my little life. Enjoy the intro video above – its taken from our all-new YouTube Channel, which you can discover for yourself right here: http://www.youtube.com/PopularNostalgia
Disney’s Adventures of the Gummi Bears to give it its full title (thanks Wikipedia) was one of my favourite cartoons growing up in the 1980s, and the video above doesn’t really show their main secret that well: Gummi-Berry Juice. When the Gummi Bears drank Gummi-Berry Juice, they could utilise their super-power, which was, rather oddly, [...]
Count Duckula was another cartoon that I grew up watching in the late 1980s and early 1990s – enjoy the episode above – I hadn’t remembered the intro was quite so long! This was one of my favourites, probably because it was pretty dark and macabre. Count Duckula was made for four series and there [...]
I remember Potsworth & Co. with fondness from my childhood, but a look back at the video shows that, compared to today’s cartoons, it was a pretty budget affair, which relied on good storylines. In the USA, it was called Midnight Patrol: Adventures in the Dream Zone – what a mouthful! Potsworth & Co. is [...]
I can’t believe we haven’t had The Raccoons featured in this Popular Nostalgia website, I mean it was Saturday morning gold when I were a wee laddie. BBC One mornings, before your mums and dads got out of bed were made all the more enjoyable/tolerable by The Raccons while we waited for Going Live to [...]
Let’s croak some toads! Captain Bucky O’Hare was the early 90′s cartoon character who graced our screens with an intergalactic battle against space toads. Remember the psychic cat “Jenny” who could read minds through the purple jewel on her head or the mad eye duck who could shoot with four arms at a time. For [...]
Tommy, Chuckie, Phil and Lil battle it out with Angelica in the sandpit. My abiding memory of Rugrats is that everyone used to know how to play the theme tune on the piano. Angelica also got on my nerves. The babies talked in silly toddler speak with lots of missing teeth and spittal – getting [...]
The cartoon series that most of us will remember ran from 1983 until 1990 and was a US production. The popular 80′s cartoon “Alvin and the Chipmunks” – featured the Chipmunks as a band with Alvin as the popular, good-looking one, Simon as the intellectual and Theodore as the cute baby-faced brother. Dave was their [...]
All I can remember about this cartoon is seeing Scrooge McDuck diving into a room full of money and then discussing with my brothers what we would do if we had that much money. As for Hughie, Louis and Dewy, they were just background to the amazing array of what Scrooge had.
Danger Mouse and Penfold used to solve mysteries and crimes together zooming around in their ace yellow supercar. Danger Mouse made eye-patches cool waaay before Gabrielle. The walrus boss-man, Colonel K, instructs the British, white mouse to save the day from evil fiends and master crooks. The arch nemesis is Baron Silas Greenback (a frog) [...]
The Getalong Gang is a fine exemplar of everything that a cartoon should be: informative, fun and featuring a moose AND a caboose. 2 words you don’t often hear in the same sentence these days, more’s the pity, are ‘moose’ and ‘caboose’. A caboose is of course the single train cart club house that the [...]
Intro Lyrics for “Funnybones” In a dark, dark town there was a dark, dark street and in the dark, dark street there was a dark, dark house, and in the dark, dark house there were some dark, dark stairs and down the dark, dark stairs there was a dark, dark cellar and in the dark [...]
