The Ricki Lake Show

Ricki Lake was a hugely popular talk show in the nineties. The titles were by far the funniest part. Contentious from the off, guests were never given much chance to be reasonable.

The Ricki Lake show gave British viewers an insight into American attitudes different from their own. Things such as “I’m proud to be in the KKK”, “Black men who prefer to date white women” and “Is it a man, or is it a woman?”, had not quite reached UK audiences up until that point. Many watched Ricki Lake in amazement at the subjects covered. Catchphrases such as “you’re not all that” and “dump that zero and get yourself a hero” gave the show cult status.

Ricki was famous for her constantly see-sawing weight and she has recently gone from eighteen stone (260 pounds) to just over eight stone (120 pounds) – that’s 114kg to 54kg in just over a year.
