Nirvana – Nevermind
This was, very possibly, the album of the 1990s. Nirvana didn’t produce one better and, for me, only Pearl Jam’s 10 has stood the test of time anything like as well as Nevermind by Nirvana.
It amazes me a little to think this album dropped onto the scene in the very beginning of last decade, released in 1991 – it doesn’t feel like 17 years have passed since this was a new sound in town!
Even today, I see kids wearing the old smiley face on the back of their hooded tops.
Its pretty coool that you can still put this album on and listen to it. Yes, there is the usual wave of nostalgia which flows richly when listening to any childhood music, but also this music is top notch in its own right.
Lambasted by everyone’s parents as being “noise” or “racket” grunge has also gone from strength to strength since Nirvana’s key role in the development of the genre (albeit now perhaps under a different re-branded name).
Nevermind was, by all accounts, a classic album, with a classic opening track- “Smells Like Teen Spirit” – listen to it again; watch the video; and remember crashing around school discos the world over.
