Nintendo Gameboy

At the end of the 1980s, in 1989 to be precise, Nintendo released the Gamboy, which was to become one of the greatest selling hand-held games consoles of all time.

Looking back, the monochrome colour scheme and basic games – such as Tetris – seem quite quaint and antiquated, but at the time, we were just happy that we had something to play with that took batteries.

Zelda was perhaps the best game for the Gameboy, though I’m sure most of you will have your own ideas – leave a comment at the bottom and tell us your favourite. Does anyone still have a Gameboy??

When I got hold of this picture, I realised that the Gameboy is almost a museum piece these days. How times have changed.

80s Child

As my name suggests, I was born in the early 80s, the things I write about will be late 80s onwards. Pretty much my earliest coherent memories are of Italia 90, which gives you some clues! I'm English. I'll update this profile bit some more soon!

  1. I got one in 1990 and it was great. I actually think the best game was probably tetris (but then I enjoyed snake on my Nokia so perhaps I have no taste?). Paper Boy was also quite fun.

The question really is: did you have any of the accesories (magnifying glass, light etc)?

  2. I just found my Gameboy in my mum and dad’s loft the other day. It is in mint condition with 4 games and the very famous grey carry case. The best game had to be double dragon or Mario! although the super soccer game was just as addictive!!

I also have the night light however it was never the brightest light and kinda made no difference.

The Gameboy made those long, boring, tedious journeys far more exciting and for this I give thanks to Nintendo.
