Mr Bean

He doesn’t talk, he loves his teddy and lives alone, but Mr Bean is a force to be reckoned with. Broadcast from 1990 – 1996, the TV shows were immensely popular with Rowan Atkinson playing a childlike, slightly alien man. Everyday tasks turn into disaster – from shopping to decorating. The character was a massive hit in Japan! Rowan insisted on trying the character out at a French Canadian comedy festival to see whether the physical comedy would work without any dialogue.

Mr Bean’s teddy has been the object of much hilarity throughout the series. Bean treats it as a live being – trying not to wake it – unless he has run out of dishcloths! His car even has character, taking on a Reliant Regal Supervan III which gets in Bean’s way. Mr Bean’s girlfriend is Irma Gobb and he gets jealous when she dances with another man at the disco, but otherwise she gets ignored and eventually leaves him.

There have been two Bean films, one released in 1997 and one in 2005.
