Craig David (Post-Kes)
Unfortunately for the lovely Craig, nobdy could ever take him seriously again as a singer after Avid Merrion recast him as a character in the series “Bo’ Selecta”. Mocked for his street lingo and general cool kid antics, Craig David soon became better known as his alter-ego who was fat, had a big chin, wore smoked lense glasses, had a yorkshire accent, sported oversize headphones, swore too much and was followed round by his pet kestrel “Kes” -referring to the film character pet of the same name.
Craig David tried to head off the poor publicity by appearing on the show but was too late to stem the flood. Although many characters were decimated by the show, Craig David seemed to fair worst as his doppelganger became more popular than himself. Despite his formidable singing abilities, the demise of UK garage was pulling Craig down with it, resulting in a very poor, generic, self-absorbed second album. Craig’s original fans had grown-up and moved on. However, nothing will ever beat “Re-wind” -it summed up the start of the 21st century in the UK.
